The ASA is the governing body for the sport in England. In this section you will find all you need to know about joining a club or competing in England and becoming a swimming teacher or coach.

The IoS delivers the ASA’s courses and is a member organisation. Whether you are a teacher, coach, employer or club you will find everything you need to know about qualifications or educating your workforce.

Sarah Barrow

Sarah first competed for Great Britain’s Junior Squad in 2003 and is the reigning British Champion in the 10m Platform. Her greatest achievement is a silver medal at the 2008 FINA Diving World Series in the 10m Synchro with her partner Monique Gladding. She cites her parents and her coach, Andy Banks, as her greatest inspiration and her ambition is to make a final at the Olympics.

Monique Gladding

Monique started her athletic career not in diving but as a gymnast and she represented South Africa when she was just 11-years-old. Her gymnastics experience enabled her to adapt into a career in diving and to date she has won a total of six gold, three silver and one bronze medal at various events. In 2009 she came sixth in the 10m Synchro event at the World Championships and she is determined to have the ultimate success of winning an Olympic medal.

Tonia Couch

Tonia began diving in 1999.  In May 2000, just 8 months into her diving career, she won a silver medal in the age ten to eleven girls 1m and 5m events at the National Age Group Championships in Southampton.

In February 2002, she became the youngest girl ever to qualify for the lottery funded Junior Olympic Programme, when she took bronze in the Junior girls platform event at the British Championships.

In 2008 and 2009, her 8th places at the Olympics and then the World Championships (the best result by a British female for twenty years), have secured her place in diving history.

Rebecca Gallantree

Rebecca Gallantree competed at her first Olympic Games in Beijing finishing in 25th place in the 3m Springboard. She has since gone on to gain a Gold medal at the 2009 British Championships held in Sheffield in the 3m Springboard. From a very young age Rebecca always wanted to be a diver and her first senior international was at The FINA Grand Prix in Madrid in 2004. She feels the experience gained at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games will help her towards achieving her aim of an Olympic medal in the London 2012 games.
