19th December 2013
Teams are making final preparations for the 2013 Speedo Duel in the Pool which sees Europe’s best swimmers go head-to-head with their counterparts from the USA in what has become the most hotly anticipated showdown of the year.
The biennial event takes place on 20-21 December at Glasgow's Tollcross International Swimming Centre, home to next year's Commonwealth Games swimming, and is a great opportunity to see the world's best swimmers battle for supremacy in the pool.
Whilst the USA has won the previous two Duel in the Pools, this year’s European Allstars team features the strongest line up ever seen, with 15 British athletes hoping to help the team to victory.
Joining Olympic medallist Michael Jamieson and World Championship medallist Fran Halsall will be British champion Ben Proud who earlier this year broke the British 50m Butterfly record.
Talking about the event, Jamieson said: “I’m really excited to be taking part in this year’s Duel in the Pool. It’s a really popular event in the calendar and a great opportunity to get a feel for the pool and environment before the Commonwealth Games next year.
“For me, it’s even more special because I used to train here. As well as the tremendous support from the public, I’ve got a lot of friends and family attending which will be great.”
Standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Britain will be French Olympic champion Yannick Agnel and double Olympic champion Ranomi Kromowidjojo of the Netherlands as they combine for the 38-strong European Allstars. Click here to view the full European team.
But they will face a USA team that also features swimming’s elite such as Olympic champions Katie Ledecky, Conor Dwyer, Shannon Vreeland and Tyler Clary. Click here to view the full American team.
Tickets are still available for Friday and Saturday and can be bought on the door or via www.ticketmaster.co.uk/feature/british-swimming. The event was initially a sell out before extra seats were added due to high demand.
