Ellen's Olympic journey started before London 2012 had even won the right to host the Games - as a 12-year old she was pictured on the 'Back the Bid' poster, diving into the Thames. More than six years on, Ellen is one of the stars of the British team and is based in Australia after her father moved Down Under for work. She's a keen painter and photographer and makes a mean cappuccino - so she claims - as a qualified barista.
Ellen's Career
Having finished 15th on her Olympic debut over 200m Butterfly at Beijing 2008, Ellen Gandy burst into international reckoning in 2009 when she smashed the European record in the same event at the British Gas Swimming Championships. Still only 18, she clinched her first individual senior honours the following season with 200m Butterfly bronze at the European Championships in Budapest. Gandy came away with two silvers (100m Butterfly, 4x100m Medley Relay) and a bronze (200m Butterfly) from the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi before announcing herself as an Olympic medal contender by winning 200m Butterfly silver at the 2011 World Championships, missing out on her first international title by just 0.04 seconds.
