PERSONAL

Did you know?
While he was born in the Seychelles, James moved to Manchester with his mother when he was five and so began his love affair with football club Manchester City. He was a talented footballer growing up and had trials with his beloved City as well as Oldham Athletic before focusing solely on swimming. His daughter Evie was born just before the Beijing Olympics in May 2008.

James' Career
Goddard is aiming to qualify for his third Olympic Games, having reached finals at Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008. At 28, he is one of the veterans of the British team but has proved to be one of their world class performers in recent years, winning double gold (200m Backstroke, 200m Individual Medley) at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. Last season, he missed out on his first World Championship medal by just 0.1 seconds as he settled for fourth in the 200m Individual Medley in Shanghai.
