PERSONAL

Did you know?
Before Liam settled on a career in swimming, he was a talented rugby player and played for Exeter Chiefs at youth level before quitting at 16. And while he didn't get to run out for the first team, he has walked out on to the Sandy Park pitch at half-time in a game and slotted over a conversion. He's also a fan of Exeter City Football Club and his girlfriend is fellow British swimmer Caitlin McClatchey.

Liam's Career
Liam Tancock is Great Britain's most succesful male swimmer of the past decade, having won medals at each of the last four World Championships. The Devonian broke through with 50m Backstroke bronze on his senior debut at the 2005 World Champs in Montreal and has since won medals at Commonwealth and European level as well as four more on the world stage. While he has won 100m Backstroke gold at the past two Commonwealth Games, Tancock's greatest achievements have come in 50m. He has won the past two World Championship titles in 2009 and 2011 respectively and broken the world record three times, the third of which (24.04 from the 2009 World Championship final in Rome) remains the current marker.
