Such was Lizzie's love of water when she was a child that the only way to stop her crying as a toddler was to put her in a paddling pool. Nowadays she doesn't just stick to the pool though. Her coach Ben Titley encourages his group of swimmers at the British Gas ITC Loughborough to take part in kick-boxing and ballet as alternative training activities.
Lizzie's Career
After dominating the junior scene between 2006 and 2007, Lizzie Simmonds was championed as a future world-beater and made her Olympic debut as a 17-year old at Beijing 2008, reaching the 200m Backstroke final and finishing sixth. She enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2010, winning her first international title with 200m Backstroke gold at the European Championships as well as silvers at the Europeans (100m Backstroke) and Commonwealth Games (200m Backstroke) respectively.
