Away from the pool, Rebecca likes to keep busy by completing jigsaws or playing with her two dogs. She has two tattoos - the five Olympic rings on her lower back and the Chinese symbol for water on her right ankle. While winning two Olympic gold medals at Beijing 2008 brought Rebecca fame (an OBE) and fortune (a sponsorship deal with Speedo), she admits she was touched by the gesture made by her first pool in Mansfield, who renamed themselves the Rebecca Adlington Swimming Centre.
Rebecca's Career
Rebecca Adlington is one of the most recognisable names in world swimming after an historic double gold at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. In winning the 400m and 800m Freestyle double (the latter in a world record) in Beijing, Adlington became the first British female swimming champion since Anita Lonsbrough in 1960 and the first British double Olympic champion since Henry Taylor in 1908. The Nova Centurion swimmer has since gone on to establish herself as an international star, adding European (400m Free) and Commonwealth (400m, 800m Free) gold in 2010 and completing her set with a World Championship title (800m Free) in 2011.
