Roberto credits much of his progress as a swimmer to the two-and-a-half years he spent training under coach Chris Nesbit at British Swimming's Offshore Centre on the Gold Coast in Australia. He sports a tattoo on his left hip saying "Offshore 08-09" in honour of his time Down Under. Roberto also has strong Italian links with his father hailing from Rome. Nowadays, Roberto's life is based around Loughborough where he studies Sport and Exercise Science at the University.

Roberto's Career
Having won the 400m Individual Medley title at consecutive European Junior Championships in 2008 and 2009, the Essex-born swimmer switched to senior coach Kevin Renshaw's group at the British Gas ITC in Loughborough for the 2010 season. After competing at the 2010 European Championships and reaching two finals at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, Pavoni continued his improvement in 2011, clocking a personal best 4:13.37 to take 400m Individual Medley gold at the British Gas Swimming Championships then reaching the final in the same event on his World Championship debut in Shanghai.
