Double Paralympic Champion Eleanor Simmonds has won the Sports Journalist Association’s (SJA) Bill McGowran Trophy for disabled sports personalities.
Simmonds, who recently added World Champion to her list of prestigious accolades, shared the Trophy with yachtswoman Hilary Lister.
The world record holder also won three European titles in Reykjavik earlier this year and is preparing for the qualification event early next year for the 2010 World Championships.
The Bill McGrowran Trophy is the longest established award of its kind having first been given out in 1963.
On her award Simmonds commented: “It is a great honour to win this award in front of so many amazing sports stars and sports professionals.
“It really has rounded off a great year for me and everyone involved within the sport. I won a few medals in relay events this year and I couldn’t have won this award without the team’s support.
“I am still quite surprised to have won the award and it was amazing to be sat next to someone like Phillips Idowu.”
