A team of 332 British swimmers, divers and synchronised swimmers will be competing in Cadiz and Seville next week as they do battle at the XII European Masters Championships.

Held between 14th September and 20th September, the Europeans incorporate events in swimming, diving, open water swimming and synchronized swimming.

Britain will be represented by 216 competitors in the swimming programme. They will be among the 4,049 swimmers from 34 LEN member nations taking part, making the Champs the biggest event ever organised in European swimming history.

“This great number of entries is clear proof of the attractiveness and appeal of the championships”, said Alfonso Wucherpfennig, Head of the Organising Committee.

Several GBR swimmers will be looking to match the record-breaking form they showed at the British Gas Masters and Senior Age Group Championships in June this year, including Derek Parr who broke the WR in the Men’s 200m Butterfly in Cardiff and Graeme Milne who took the European Mark in the Men’s 100m Fly.

Other names to look out for in the pool include dominant Masters swimmers Berenice Wilson, Jane Asher and Susan Halter, who swam at the 1948 Olympics.

Andrew Huckle (50/54yrs Age Group) will go into the open water swimming events in Cadiz’s inner harbour with confidence after taking the ASA National Masters title last month. He is among a squad of 59 open water swimmers.

Synchronized Swimming is appearing for the second time as part of the Europeans with solo, duet and team events. Twenty six athletes will compete for Great Britain, including Brighton Dolphin and Seymour Synchro in the team events.

The diving events (1m and 3m board as well as platform) will be held in Seville and 31 athletes will represent GBR, including Army Swimming Union’s Amanda Prentice, a former 3m board World Masters Champion.
