Gladding and Powell finish top eight in Eindhoven
16th May 2012
Monique Gladding and Stacie Powell both finished in the top eight of the 10m Platform at the 2012 European Diving Championships in Eindhoven.
In what was a personal best individual finish for both divers at the Europeans, World Cup finalist Gladding ultimately finished fifth while Powell was eighth.
City of Sheffield diver Gladding had qualified fourth from the preliminary and was lying third after three dives in the final.
A missed dive on her fourth effort cost her a spot on the podium but she recovered to score 67.50 for her final dive (107B) and finish fifth overall on 300.70.
One dropped dive from her list also put Powell out of contention but she showed her ability with a 72.00 for her fourth effort (407C) and 67.20 on her final dive (5253B) to finish eighth on 292.15.
Day three sees World Championship finalist Jack Laugher take part in his first European competition along with Chris Mears in the 3m Springboard while World Cup bronze medallists Tonia Couch and Sarah Barrow go in the 10m Synchro.
