4 July 2014

Sam Thornton was just 0.1 points away from collecting his second medal on the fourth day of the 2014 European Junior Diving Championships in Bergamo, Italy.

Having progressed fifth from the 3m Prelim, the City of Leeds diver – who won Group A 1m Springboard bronze two days earlier – was an agonising fourth in the final, finishing on 507.15 behind Norwegian bronze medallist Daniel Jensen’s 507.25.

Edinburgh Diving’s James Heatly also made the final in Italy, finishing ninth on 482.00.

Francesca Del Celo (Plymouth) and Lydia Rosenthall (City of Leeds) were the other British divers in action on day four, reaching the final in the Group A 1m Springboard.

Del Celo ultimately scored 372.95 to finish seventh while Rosenthall – competing in the top age group for the first time – was 12th on 348.75.
