Jack Laugher becomes Commonwealth ambassador

2 October 2013

Olympic diver Jack Laugher is the latest person to join England’s Ambassador Programme ahead of the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Ambassadors will have various roles working alongside Commonwealth Games England (CGE) to promote the CGE and Team England to the public in the lead up to the Games.

"It would be brilliant to compete on home soil again after the Olympics" - Jack LaugherJack, a member of the City of Leeds Diving Club and whose first multi-sports event was the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games, said:

“I’m very proud to be named an England Ambassador and I can’t wait to get involved. The Delhi 2010 Games were very special as my first multi-sport event and I have some very fond memories.

“I’d love to go to Glasgow with England and be a part of that ‘Friendly Games’ experience again. It would be brilliant to compete on ‘home soil’ again after the Olympics, with some great support for our team.”

Commonwealth Games England Chief Executive Adam Paker added: “We are very pleased to have Jack on board and his story underlines just how important the Commonwealth Games are for young athletes and their development.

“Our Ambassadors Programme continues to go from strength to strength and with less than 300 days to go until the Games start in Glasgow, and just over a week until the Queen’s Baton Relay launches in London, we are all very excited.”
