Junior Divers celebrate medal haul in Helsinki
The British Junior Diving Team, powered by British Gas, won medals in all of the scheduled events on the third day of competition at the European Junior Championships in Helsinki.
Jack Laugher won the third gold medal for the Brits when he won the 3m Springboard title with an excellent performance.
Laugher had an ideal start to the competition when he won the 1m Springboard on Friday, later in the day he finished fourth in the 3m Synchro and adds the 3m Springboard gold to his medal tally.
In the prelim, the Harrogate diver was pushed all the way by Russia’s Igor Myalin and began the final with confidence.
Laugher scored well in all of the rounds and won his final by over 30 points. He finished with a total score of 509.45. Ukraine’s Timur Abachidi won silver with a score of 471.45.
Josh Dowd finished in sixth place with a score of 420.60.
The fifth medal of the competition came from Grace Reid in the 1m Spingboard. She took on tough competition in the form of Russian Evganiya Selezneva and Germany’s Tina Punzel.
Reid remained calm throughout the final and scored a total of 325.70 to win silver behind Selezneva who scored 342.50.
Reid concluded the day by teaming up with Hannah Starling to win bronze in the 3m Synchro. In a close final Reid and Starling kept their nerve to steal bronze from the German pairing of Jessica Roch and Marie Klass.
The British Champions won bronze with a score of 271.95 with gold going to Diana Chaplieva and Evgeniya Selezneva (Russia) with 288.30 points and Viktoriya Kesar and Viktoriya Potekhina (Ukraine) won silver with 288.03 points.
