Junior Divers celebrate successful European campaign

The British Junior Diving Team, powered by British Gas, won a total of seven medals at the LEN European Junior Diving Championships in Helsinki.

The divers return home with four gold medals, one silver and two bronze medals and can celebrate one of the most successful performances at a European Junior Diving Championships for a British team.

Team Leader Julian Bellan commented: “The 2010 results including four gold medals, are without question, the best junior results at European level ever. The good results can’t be attributed to just one factor, but the depth of diving talent that is driving up the standards coupled with a confidence and self-belief both in the coaching team and divers is undoutably key.

“We will always reflect upon financial investment in sport and the level we have enjoyed in recent years is paying dividends on a new generation of athletes that is now capable of taking on the traditional giants of the diving world.

“While we enjoy these results we immediately focus our attention to the junior worlds next month and maintain our policy of developing athletes prepared for life as a senior.

“Special thanks must go to the coaching staff but special mention to Damian Ball coach of four medals including three golds to Jack Laugher and Oliver Dingley.”
