Aquatics coaches graduate from ECAP

15 November 2013

Mel Marshall, Richard Blackshaw and Damian Ball are the latest aquatics coaches to graduate from UK Sport’s Elite Coaching Apprenticeship Programme (ECAP).

The two-year development course is designed to accelerate the learning of coaches already working within the high performance programmes of their respective sports.

Richard Blackshaw is head coach of Stockport Metro Swimming Club, Damian Ball is head coach at Southend Diving Club while Marshall is head coach at City of Derby Swimming Club.

And Marshall insists the course has pushed the young coaches to their limits over the past 48 months.

“It’s been a real rollercoaster,” said Marshall. “I feel like I’ve just got to the end and I’m now able to enjoy the view.

“There have been a lot of challenges and times when we’ve felt uncomfortable, but those challenges have allowed us to become quite certain in our abilities.”
