The ASA is the governing body for the sport in England. In this section you will find all you need to know about joining a club or competing in England and becoming a swimming teacher or coach.

The IoS delivers the ASA’s courses and is a member organisation. Whether you are a teacher, coach, employer or club you will find everything you need to know about qualifications or educating your workforce.

Backstroke Champion John Brockway passed away at his home at the age of 80 after enjoying a swimming career that spanned over a decade.

Brockway was a 100m Backstroke British Champion and he captained the British Swimming team at the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne. He won gold in the 100 yards Backstroke at the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Vancouver.

In 1948 he made his Olympic debut and finished in seventh place in the 100m Backstroke final. He also won silver at the 1950 British Empire Games 110 yards Backstroke.

He also competed at the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games, finishing sixth in the 4x110 yards Medley Relay.
