LOCOG announce test events for London 2012 Aquatics Centre
24 February 2011
London 2012 organisers plan to use the Aquatics Centre in the Olympic Park as the venue for next year’s British Gas Swimming Championships.
LOCOG will test each of the venues destined for use at London 2012 through a series of international events to examine the field of play, results, scoring and timing systems as well as key operational procedures and functions.
The first Aquatics test event – which had already been announced – will be an International Invitational on 13 August 2011 in Hyde Park – the venue for the 10km Marathon races at London 2012.
The Aquatics Centre in the Olympic Park will then play host to test events for diving, swimming, synchronised swimming and water polo between February and May in 2012 (subject to change):
- 20 – 26 February - FINA Diving World Cup
- 3 – 10 March - British Gas Swimming Championships
- 18 – 22 April - FINA Olympic Games Synchronised Swimming Qualification Tournament
- 3 – 6 May – Water Polo International Invitational
The test events for diving, synchronised swimming and water polo are likely to be ticketed by LOCOG with details to be announced later in 2011.
