Loughborough coaching update
30th April 2012
Swimming at Loughborough is facing the start of a new era from Sept 2012 with the departure of Ian Armiger coinciding with the start of a new four year Olympic cycle for British Swimming.
As part of our preparation for the Rio cycle British Swimming (BS) and Loughborough University (LU) have been in close discussion about the best coaching structure to guide Loughborough through the next four years. We have looked at a wide range of options to find the best solution for all swimmers at Loughborough.
As it stands we have agreed that it is right for LU to look for a direct replacement for Ian as Director of Swimming for the University programmes. Consequently LU will be looking to go out to advert pre-Olympics with a view to interviewing and appointing after the Games.
BS is currently conducting a World Class Programmes review, including the entire ITC Network, as it prepares for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games cycle. The direction and structure of the WCP including the ITC Network will be based on its funding position with UK Sport post London2012 .
LU and BS are totally committed to operating a world class swim training environment at Loughborough from now through 2016 and beyond. We will continue to work collaboratively to ensure that all swimmers at Loughborough get the best possible experience and have the opportunity to absolutely maximise their potential.
