Harrison breaks new ground for British Masters Swimming

12 February 2014

John Harrison became the first British Masters swimmer to compete in the 100-104 year age group as he set three World records and one European record over consecutive weekends.

His own Godalming SC organised a January open meet to give Harrison the chance to set his first records in the age group.

And the 99-year old, who is eligible to compete in the 100-104 age group as he turns 100 later in July 2014, duly obliged with a world short course 50m Backstroke record of 1:29.78.

He followed this up with a European record in the 100m Freestyle at the same competition.

Just seven days later at the Crawley K2 meet, Harrison set a long course 50m Backstroke world record of 1:32.20 and a 100m Free record of 3:23.10.
