Last chance to vote for Simmonds for BT Sport award

16 January 2014

Four-time Paralympic gold medallist Ellie Simmonds has been shortlisted on the final 10 nominees for the 2013 BT Action Woman Award.

  • Voting has now closed for the 2013 BT Action Woman of the Year awards.

The new award, launched by BT Sport, recognizes the outstanding performance of the year by a British sportswoman.

And after Simmonds’ record-breaking heroics at the IPC World Championships in Montreal this summer, the 19-year old British swimmer stands a great chance of landing another accolade.

Despite taking an extended break after her four-medal heroics at the London 2012 Paralympic Games, Simmonds was a dominant figure at her third long course IPC Worlds in Canada.

She won the British Gas GBR Para-Swimming Team’s first gold of the meet in the S6 400m Freestyle then went on to add further golds over 100m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley, the latter in a world record.

The teenager also landed 50m Freestyle bronze and was close to landing her first international medals in 100m Backstroke and 100m Breaststroke, finishing fourth in both.

Simmonds switched training base to Loughborough following the Championships and has seen immediate results, breaking her own short course S6 400m Freestyle world record at Ponds Forge this month.
