Adlington awarded prestigious SJA Award

Rebecca Adlington was voted Sportswoman of the Year by Britain’s sports journalists today in recognition of her victory in the 800 metres freestyle at swimming’s world championships in Shanghai.
Adlington, 22, who had won the award in 2008 following her double gold medal success at the Beijing Olympics, was presented with the trophy by Anita Lonsbrough, Britain’s previous female Olympic swimming gold medallist, who visited Adlington in training in Nottingham.
On top of her gold in her main event Adlington also won silver in the 400m Freestyle to start of her medal tally at the World Championships.
