Allen shines in Hungary to take European silver

24 May 2012

Sophie Allen won her first major international medal for the British Gas GBR Swimming Team at the European Championships in Debrecen, Hungary.

The British Gas ITC Stockport swimmer broke her own English Record to win silver in the 200m Individual Medley at her first senior European Championships.

Having qualified fifth fastest for the final, Allen touched the wall in 2:11.49 with Katinka Hosszu of Hungary taking the gold in 2:10.84.

Allen’s silver takes the total for the five-strong British contingent to two medals following James Goddard’s silver in the 200m IM yesterday.
