21st October 2012

Sophie Allen clocked an English record to strike gold on the final European leg of the 2012 FINA World Cup in Berlin.

The European silver medallist won 200m Individual Medley gold in 2:07.52 – more than a second clear of the field.

Allen’s result capped a successful week for the British Gas ITC Stockport swimmer, having won three medals over the previous two legs in Moscow and Stockholm.

Kathryn Johnstone became Great Britain’s second medallist of the weekend as she claimed 50m Breaststroke silver.

The 22-year old broke Alison Sheppard's nine-year old Scottish record as she set 30.89 to reach the podium, finishing second only to reigning long course and former short course world champion Jessica Hardy (30.13).
