As the British Gas senior swimming squad are finishing their World Championship campaign in Rome, some of Britain’s most promising swimmers will be battling it out for international honours at the British Tri-Nations.

On 1st and 2nd August the 40-strong British Gas Tri-Nations team will face tough competition from strong Canadian and Russian squads at Crystal Palace. The British team will be hoping to emulate last year’s position at the top of the points table.

Last year’s event, held in Quebec, Canada, saw the British contingent depart with 44 medals, comprising 20 gold, 14 silver and 10 bronze, after a very successful meet.

Chris Martin, Head Coach of the British team said: “It’s been a really good summer for British swimming and the Tri-Nations team will be looking to continue that form.

“In Rome at the moment the teams are all pretty close so we’re expecting some good competition at Crystal Palace.”

Many of the team will have been busy this week representing their clubs at this year’s British Gas ASA National Youth Championships in Sheffield and will hope to be at their best.

he British team will boast new British Record Holder Daniel Sliwinski the 2008 Junior World champion (100m and 200m Breaststroke) and Ryan Bennett 2008 European Junior gold and silver medallist.

The team, comprising of men under 22-years and women under 20-years, will link up on tomorrow before contesting this exciting two day event.
