British Swimming announces key competition dates

7th December 2012

British Swimming has announced two key dates on the 2013 swimming calendar, including the trials for the World Championships next year.

In response to the results of the London 2012 Performance Debrief the British Gas Swimming Championships 2013 will now be held in Ponds Forge ISC, Sheffield from the 26th – 30th June.

This event will form the trials for the FINA World Championships in Barcelona in July.

The Performance Debrief also recognised a need for swimmers to race more often so in March the British Gas International Swimming Meet will be held at the John Charles Centre for Sport in Leeds.

Held from the 7th -10th March this event will become a regular fixture on the British Swimming calendar in the run up to Rio 2016 and will be open to foreign competitors with the long term plan to develop it into a recognised meet in the international calendar.

The British Gas Open will be the domestic benchmark meet on the Development Programme and will be the trials for the European Junior Championships and the European Youth Olympic Festival in 2013.

It will also act as the first stage of selections for the World Championships Open Water places.

British Swimming is currently in discussions with Scottish Swimming whose national championships are normally held at the end of June.

Further details including the event schedules, timings and tickets will be made available in due course.
