Club funding to enhance athlete development

16 May 2014

British Swimming has launched a new performance funding programme to target over £100,000 worth of investment at athletes and programmes across a number of clubs.

Funding is targeted at clubs where at least one podium athlete and/or three podium potential athletes are based and will enhance a number of programme elements designed to maximise athlete development and performance.

"Performance club funding is an important part of our strategy" Adam Clarke, Head of Performance Services Clubs in receipt of funding for 2014/2015 are: City of Derby, City of Manchester, Millfield (Somerset), Plymouth Leander, City of Sheffield, Stockport Metro and Warrender Baths Club (Edinburgh).

The successful Clubs, as part of a thorough application process, had to identify priority areas where investment would enhance athlete development as well as the overall club programme.

Within the day-to-day club programme the funding will be used to support a range of additional services and activities, including training camps for identified athletes, provision of sports science support, additional equipment and coaching support.

British Swimming Head of Performance Services Adam Clarke commented “Performance club funding is an important part of our strategy to ensure a number of our key clubs have the support they need to provide a quality training environment for World Class Programme athletes.  19 athletes currently on the Programme will benefit directly from this investment into their home club.”
