Elite swimmers head to Cyprus training camp
16th April 2013
Athletes from the British Gas ITC Loughborough will travel to Cyprus for a warm weather training camp where they will continue to work towards selection to this year’s World Championships squad.
The elite swimmers will spend 12 days in warm-weather training at the Coral Beach Hotel and Resort near Paphos.
The camp provides athletes with fresh stimulus and the opportunity to train outdoors just two months out from the British Gas Swimming Championships – the one and only opportunity to qualify for this summer’s World Championships.
Since the resort first hosted Britain’s athletes in 2004, it has been regularly used as a warm weather training base for the nation’s top swimmers
The camp, which has been supported by handling operator Arena Sports as well Cyprus Tourism Organisation, will be based around an outdoor 50m pool at the hotel.
Kevin Renshaw, Senior Coach at the British Gas ITC Loughborough, commented: "As a training group we come back to Cyprus every year because it provides a perfect environment for us to work towards our collective goals.
“The outdoor facilities on offer, the location and our fantastic hosts ensure we have everything we need to undertake a good preparation for our national trials and World Championships this summer.”
