Gandy on song in Butterfly heats

British Gas GBR swimmer Ellen Gandy stormed into the semi-finals of the Women’s 200m Butterfly on day four of the World Championships in Shanghai.

The 19-year old finished fifth in her first World Championship final in the 100m Butterfly earlier in the week and continued her form in this morning's heats, clocking 2:08.14 to progress fourth fastest.

Fellow Brit Jemma Lowe - who also reached the 100m Butterfly final - progressed to the semi finals 11th fastest in a time of 2:08.67.

Commonwealth champion James Goddard looked comfortable in the 200m Individual Medley and posted a time of 1:59.68 to progress to the semi-finals in 11th place. Teammate Joe Roebuck missed out on a second swim by just three places, finishing 19th overall with a time of 2:00.42.

World Championship debutante Georgia Davies is eighth fastest into the semi finals of the 50m Backstoke in 28.39 while Gemma Spofforth joins here in 15th in 28.79.

In the Men's 100m Freestyle Adam Brown went 49.13 and Simon Burnett 49.25 but both missed out on semi final spots, finishing 21st and 25th respectively with 48.93 the cut-off point for the semis.
