Halsall sets British fly record in Rome
20 June 2011
A British Record of 25.86 from Fran Halsall led the group from British Gas ITC in Loughborough to the team international prize in the Seven Hills Trophy meet in Rome at the weekend.
Halsall, who clocked the fastest time in the world this year for the 100m Freestyle at the British Gas ASA Nationals just days ago, beat her previous 50m Butterfly record by nearly half a second.
Lizzie Simmonds also set a meet record in the 200m Backstroke, touching in 2.08.26 to end a good week for her, after she qualified for this event and the 100m Backstroke for the World Championships at Shanghai.
Ben Titley, who coaches most of the team who competed out in Rome said: “I’m really pleased with the results. There was some fast swimming on the back of a good week at the trials. This is a great result for our Loughborough University team.”
Although the team trophy was won as Great Britain, the team was made up solely of Loughborough University swimmers who beat national teams from Denmark, Hungary, Italy and South Africa.
