Honour for Halsall as Olympic Athletes of the Year announced

23 December 2013

Fran Halsall has been named Aquatics’ Olympic Athlete of the Year 2013 by the British Olympic Association.

The British Gas ITC Loughborough swimmer won bronze in the 50m freestyle at the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona and ended her season ranked second in the world over 100m freestyle.

Each year the British Olympic Association invites each of its summer and winter Olympic-sport National Governing Bodies to nominate the top-performing athlete from their sport to receive the honour. Halsall, who was part of the European Allstars team that took on the USA in the recent Speedo Duel in the Pool event in Glasgow,  is one of 35 athletes across 31 sports to be recognised in the annual awards.

Halsall said: “I’m delighted to have been given this award and want to thank everyone who has supported me throughout the year. 2013 has been good, but I’m really looking forwards to a great 2014 with the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.”
