Youth Olympic Games squad announced

Eight British swimmers have been selected to compete at the second Summer Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Nanjing, China, the British Olympic Association (BOA) announced today.
Taking place from 16-28 August 2014, the swimmers will be part of a Team GB squad of 33 athletes who will compete across 14 sports.
"The Youth Olympic Games will give these young athletes a fantastic learning experience" - Nathan Hilton, Team LeaderAged between 15-18 years, the YOG plays a crucial role in the development of young athletes and provides a multi-sport Games experience that helps them along the route to their own Olympic dreams.
Nathan Hilton, Team Leader for Swimming, said: “We’ve got a nice mix of experience in the swimming squad for Nanjing 2014.
“Some have competed for Team GB before at European Youth Olympic Festivals, while others have done well on a domestic level.
“The Youth Olympic Games will give these young athletes a fantastic learning experience in a multi-sport environment, which is an important part of a swimmers development, and I’m sure will help them progress and set them up well for stepping up to the senior level.”
Luke Greenbank, who won 200m Backstroke gold at the 2014 European Junior Championships, said: “It’s such an honour to be selected to represent Team GB.
“I’ve had a really good start to the year after doing well at the British Championships, being selected for the European Juniors squad and now this.
“Watching the swimming at London 2012 was a huge inspiration and hopefully Nanjing is a step towards racing at the Olympic Games myself.”

“To be part of such a massive multi-sport event with thousands of athletes from hundreds of nations is going to be amazing. I’ve won medals at the World Juniors and at Nationals so I’m hopeful of producing more success at Nanjing 2014.”
Sarah Winckless, Chef de Mission, said: “Nanjing 2014 provides the perfect springboard for budding Olympians to gain valuable experience at a multi-sport event and as part of Team GB."
