Brits prepare for first comp of the season
20th November 2012
The British Gas GBR Synchronised Swimming team are preparing for their first competition of the season as they travel to Mexico for the FINA World Trophy.
The competition will feature Duet, Team and Combination routines and is designed to showcase the very best of Synchro from around the world.
Taking place between November 30 and December 2, the World Trophy is the only competition in the international synchro calendar that requires thematic routines with the theme this year being anything Mexican.
Great Britain will be competing in the Duet, Team and Combination events, with the Duet performing a snake inspired routine and Team performing a Chihuahua routine.
High Performance Manager Adele Carlsen said: “The world trophy provides the team with a chance to really focus on the artistic side of the sport which has been one of the weaker aspects of the team.
“We have created some fresh and innovative routines and this is the only event where you can use props within the choreography so it will be exciting for both judges and audience alike.
“With both synchro and Mexican celebrity judges to impress, we could see the results being very different to other major events. We are only taking five of the nine Olympians from London and we have four new athletes on the team for this competition so it is a fantastic chance for them to impress the coaches.”
