Comprehensive win for Water Polo team

The British Gas GBR Women’s Water Polo team have won their second match in the LEN European Championship qualifying tournament beating Israel 3-19.

GBR opened the scoring with early goals from Angie Winstanley-Smith and Chloe Wilcox, who went on to score three goals in the first quarter. Israel replied with two goals, but Great Britain dominated the second quarter, including two goals each for Ciara Gibson Byrne and Peggy Etiebet. At half time the score was ISR 3-13 GBR.

"We are pleased with another win in the tournament" - Kostas Vamvakaris GBR continued to dominate the match denying Israel any further opportunities to score and adding three goals in each of the last two quarters. The final score was 3-19 (2-6, 1-7, 0-3, 0-3) for a GBR victory.

Head Coach Kostas Vamvakaris said: “We are pleased with another victory in the tournament and that once again we didn’t concede any goals in the second half. We now look forward to the match against hosts Netherlands at 17.00 (GMT) today but we will need to be more accurate with our shots.”
