British to face Hungary in European Water Polo opener

The British Gas GBR Women’s Water Polo team will face Hungary in their opening game of the 2012 European Water Polo Championships in Eindhoven.

Competing at the European showpiece for the first time since 1997, the Brits will also face defending champions Russia as well as Olympic champions and hosts the Netherlands in Group A of the Championships with take place from 16–29 January 2012.

The group winners will progress directly to the semi finals while the runners-up and third-place finishers will qualify for the quarter finals.

Group B comprises of world champions Greece, World League silver medallists Italy, Spain and Germany.
