Brits equal best at European Juniors
24th September 2012
The British Gas GBR Women’s Water Polo team finished seventh after a nail-biting climax to their 2012 European Under 19 Championships in Chelyabinsk, Russia.
Having finished ninth in 2011, the Brits equaled their best ever finish of seventh from 2010 as defeated France in a penalty shoot-out in their final match of the tournament.
After progressing fourth from the group stage with two victories and three defeats, the British women were fighting for seventh place after a quarter final defeat to Spain.
But in their final match against France, the Brits fought back from an early 3-0 deficit to force extra time then a penalty shoot-out at 5-5.
Ella Chadderton, Kathryn Routledge and Sophie Gilbert ultimately put home the three penalties which saw the Brits prevail 8-7.
