Brits learn from Italian onslaught
7th March 2012
The British Gas GBR Men’s Water Polo team continued their build up to London 2012 with a FINA World League preliminary at World Champions Italy.
In front of a boisterous and sell-out crowd in Cremona, the Italians demonstrated why there are the best team in the world as they completed their perfect qualification campaign with a 14-1 victory.
The Brits' best performance came in the second quarter where they scored and imposed themselves on the Italian defence throughout the eight minutes.
But Italy turned on the style in the second half, showing flair to unlock a hard-working British defence.
The British men will look to finish their campaign on a high when they host Russia in Manchester on March 20.
The Brits pushed Russia all the way in the away leg in January and will be looking to spring a surprise as the Olympic Games edges closer on the horizon.
