Brits score impressive win in Hungarian League
6 March 2011
Great Britain’s women’s water polo team, powered by British Gas, handed ZF Eger their fourth defeat of the season in the Hungarian League.
The British women came from behind three times on the way to an impressive 9-8 victory in Hungary.
Fran Clayton starred with a hat-trick while Frankie Snell, Fran Leighton, Becky Kershaw, Ciara Gibson-Byrne and Rachel Drabble also found the net for the British.
The Hungarian outfit reversed the result a day later but the British made them fight for the win, eventually going down 8-5.
Doubles for Angie Winstanley-Smith and Vicki Hawkins as well as another Clayton strike put the British in the hunt but there was no coming back once ZF-Eger had established a three-goal advantage early in the final quarter.
The British will now prepare for their vital 2012 European Championship qualifier against Ukraine on 26 March.
