The British women’s water polo team will face world champions Spain in two FINA World League qualifiers this season.

The Brits will also play Russia – fourth place finishers at this year’s World Championships in Barcelona – with home and away matches against both teams between November 2013 and April 2014.

2013 FINA World League Preliminaries

  • 17 December 2013 - Great Britain v Russia
  • 21 January 2014 - Spain v Great Britain
  • 18 March 2014 - Russia v Great Britain
  • 22 April 2014 - Great Britain v Spain
While more details of the home matches will be released closer to the time, Great Britain will host the Russians on 17 December and Spain on 22 April.

The British women will also compete in qualifiers for the 2014 LEN European Championships early next year.

And with the 2013 / 2014 water polo season approaching fast, members of the women’s team have been settling in at their respective European clubs.

This season will see 11 of the current British squad plying their domestic trade across some of Europe’s most competitive leagues.

Goalkeeper and captain Rosie Morris will remain at Olympic Nice Natation in France where she will play alongside British teammate Aine Hoy.

Chloe Wilcox and Ciara Gibson-Byrne will also serve a second season at CN Mataro in Barcelona where they will be joined by young goalkeeper Jade Smith and centre forward Lisa Gibson.

Rachel Drabble and Kathryn Fowler will also play in the Spanish Division de Honor for CN La Latina while Peggy Etiebet (Szentes) and Fran Clayton (Eger) will play in Hungary and Hazel Musgrove (Ethnikos) in Greece.

Meanwhile, Great Britain’s improving domestic teams will return to European competition in November with the preliminary round of the LEN Women’s Euro League.

London Otter will travel to the Netherlands in Group B while City of Manchester will host Group C in which North West rivals City of Liverpool will also compete.

The competition will take place between 28 November and 1 December 2013.
