Perfect progress for Cheltenham and Bristol Central
4th February 2013
Cheltenham and Bristol Central stormed through to the British Gas Water Polo Championships Finals with perfect records from last weekend’s Preliminaries.
Super Fives champions Cheltenham saw off Caledonia (20-9) and Manchester (13-10) before downing defending champions Portobello (17-12) in their final match to win Group A.
Manchester progressed second from the group thanks to victories over Portobello (11-9) and Caledonia (18-2). They will play Bristol Central in their semi-final after the South West outfit topped Group B.
Led by Team GB's captain from London 2012 Craig Figes, Bristol beat Welsh Wanderers (22-5), London Penguins (18-11) and Lancaster (12-9).
Lancaster were a close second in the group and will play Cheltenham in their semi-final after victories over London Penguins (19-13) and Welsh Wanderers (17-5).
The British Gas Water Polo Championships finals will take place in Manchester over the weekend of the 23rd and 24th February 2013. All tickets will be available on the door.
The women's finals will be contested by defending champions City of Manchester, Otter, Liverpool Lizards and Coventry after the four sides finished in the top four places of the British Water Polo League Super Fives competition earlier in January.
