Teams secure places at Water Polo Championships

With two weeks to go until the British Gas Water Polo Championships 2010, Britain’s top men’s Water Polo clubs have begun their campaign to be crowned National Champions.

Eight men’s teams competed in the Preliminary Round of the event last weekend (6-7th February) at the Manchester Aquatics Centre.

Clubs from around the country competed in two groups in a round-robin format, with the top-two finishers in each group earning their place in the Final of the British Gas Water Polo Championships which takes place 20th-21st February.

Last year’s champions Lancaster will defend their title after finishing top of their group with three wins out of three. They will be joined by City of Manchester, who also triumphed in all three of their matches, last year’s runners-up Rotherham, and Bristol Central.

The British Gas Water Polo Championships 2010 will also see four women’s clubs competing. City of Manchester will be looking to extend their winning streak after claiming the title for the previous two years, and will be joined by Liverpool, Sheffield and West London Penguins in the Final (there was no preliminary round for the women’s teams).
