Water polo cap? Check. Speedos? Check. Moustaches? Check!

11 June 2010
The British Men’s Water Polo team, powered by British Gas, will not only be sporting their trademark Speedos and water polo caps when they take to the pool for a competition in Poland later this month: They will also be adorned with moustaches as they attempt to be crowned with the title ‘Tash of the Tournament’.

The contest, a brainchild of Team Manager Tony Strong, is a twist on the annual Movember celebration, which sees men around the world grow moustaches in November to raise awareness of prostate cancer.

The team began the contest on 1st June and will be attempting to grow their best ‘taches throughout the month until they will be judged at the Lodz City Cup.

‘I did it a couple of years ago at a tournament and all of the guys said that they wanted to do something similar so I came up with the idea and they all agreed,’ said Strong.

‘We just want to help raise awareness and have a little bit of fun. The camp in Poland is a low-key event so it’ll be a nice way to finish the competition.

‘I want to see Christian [Iordache, Head Coach] with a moustache. He has such a baby face, I want to see what comes out!

Confident of his moustache growing skills Tony has a big aim, ‘I want mine to go all the way down to my chest! But I think Alex Parsonage has a good shot at taking the title.’
