Water Polo team make final preparations in Barcelona

The British Gas GBR Water Polo team are making their final preparations ahead of the FINA World Championships in Barcelona.

The Brits practised their match play with a scrimmage with the Brazilian team on Wednesday (17th July) and will do the same with the Australian team tonight ahead of their first group match against Canada.

"Training has been going really well, everyone is in good spirits and we’re looking forward to getting started," - Water Polo captain Rosie MorrisLondon 2012 Olympian Rosie Morris has been appointed as captain for the team for the competition and said: “Our final preparations are going well, we’ve played Brazil and we’re playing Australia to practice our tactics ahead of a physical team like Canada.

“It’s a great honour to play for your country, so to be captain is an even bigger privilege.

“Training has been going really well, everyone is in good spirits and we’re looking forward to getting started and playing our matches.”

GB will face Canada on Sunday (21st July) followed by the reigning World Champions Greece on Tuesday (23rd) before their final group stage game against Olympic gold medallists USA on Thursday (25th).

They will also play a knock-out match on Saturday (27th) with the winner earning a coveted top eight spot.

“We’ve prepared well and been out here training hard,” said National Performance Director Graeme Thompson. “We’re now looking forward to the opening matches.”
