26 March 2011
The British Women’s Water Polo Team, powered by British Gas, claimed their second European victory earlier today when they beat Ukraine 11-7.
Angie Winstanley-Smith netter three goals in the match that saw seven of the team get on the score sheet.
Finishing the first quarter level on two goals apiece, the Brits stormed away scoring a further four in the second period with Ukraine managing to net just one.
By the end of the third quarter Ukraine had managed to narrow the gap but Great Britain were still ahead leading 7-5.
The British team found their way past the Ukrainian defence in the final period and added four further goals to their tally finishing the match 11-7.
They now sit second in the table behind their next opponents, Spain, who lead only on goal difference.
The team will now return the High Performance Centre in Manchester and will face the European silver medallists on 30th April.
