Sam Hynd

After showing promise with MC 100m Butterfly silver at the 2007 British Gas Swimming Championships, Sam Hynd gained international recognition by smashing the S8 400m Freestyle world record to win gold as a 17-year old at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics.

Having also won SM8 200m Individual bronze in Beijing, Hynd continued to improve during the 2009 season, landing double gold at the IPC European Championships, once again over 400m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley.

He lowered his S8 400m Freestyle world record again at the 2010 Paralympic World Cup then recovered from a serious car crash to defend his 400m Freestyle title at the 2011 IPC Europeans in Berlin.

Hynd made the podium for the sixth consecutive British Gas Swimming Championships in 2012, winning MC 400m Freestyle bronze and booking a spot at the London 2012 Paralympic Games in the process.

He won S8 400m Freestyle bronze at the London Games before claiming silver in the same event at the 2013 IPC World Championships in Montreal.

In the Pool
