British Gas British Swimming’s ITC Swansea is based at the Wales National Pool Swansea (WNPS), adjoining Swansea University’s Sports Centre on campus. It offers the best possible facilities, services and expertise to consolidate our high performance base in Swansea. Read on to learn more.

British Gas ITC Swansea

Based at the Wales National Pool Swansea (WNPS), which adjoins Swansea University’s Sports Centre on campus, British Swimming's ITC Swansea, supported by Swim Wales, offers the best possible facilities, services and expertise to consolidate high performance base in Swansea.

The ITC programme is driven by Head Coach Bud McAllister, who has served as a British Swimming coach at Swansea since 2007 and during his career to date has achieved World Records and Olympic medals.

Working alongside Bud since September 2009, after he left his role as Head Coach to Bournemouth SC and was appointed Assistant Coach at the Swansea ITC, is Graham Bassi.  Since beginning a career as a professional coach in 1995 with Lincoln Vulcans Graham has coached 12 international swimmers, including Olympians Lizzie Simmonds and Kate Haywood. 

The ITC Swansea programme includes a full range of sports science and medicine support designed to meet all ITC athletes’ needs.  Support services are provided at the pool centre and adjoining university sports campus.  

Core services include the support of a full-time, ITC-based British Swimming Performance Scientist, Sports Massage Therapist, Physiotherapist, Biomechanist, Sports Psychologist, Nutritionist and sports medicine cover.

ITC Swansea accommodation prices

The University offer halls of residence consisting of eight and 12 single bedrooms with showers and toilets. Each floor has its own common room and kitchen with cooking and washing facilities.

Prices 2009/10
Single room: £4,888 per annum inclusive

Swim Wales also offers accommodation on site:

  • 1 x 5 bedroom house at £367 per month per swimmer
  • 1 x 4 bedroom house at £357 per month per swimmer
  • 1 x 3 bedroom flat at £367 per month per swimmer

Swansea University will accept non university ITC athletes if there are an adequate number of swimmers completing educational programmes at Swansea University and the price is the same for all athletes.

The university can cater for a small number of under-18 athletes and have trained welfare and education staff.
