Jodie Cowie’s GB Journey: Happy Easter

2nd April 2013

In January 2013, 15-year old Jodie Cowie was selected to train with the British Gas GBR Synchronised Swimming Team. She decided to write a blog to keep track of her exciting first year with the team.

Wow! – I didn’t realise how long it had been since I posted! Days seem to be passing really quickly!

Happy Easter everyone! I had a lovely weekend with my parents who brought me up some eggs – from them, my brother, my sisters, my gran and of course the Easter Bunny! It’s going to take me a long time to eat them all but I’m sure I will manage.

Last Friday we got our new kit (thanks to Speedo and British Swimming!) which is really exciting. I didn’t think any of it would fit when I took it all out the bag but it turns out it nearly all fits perfectly. The new design is really cool – I can’t wait to wear it. It all came in a British Swimming suitcase which we will take to competitions, and as well as that we got a new bag, towels and bottles. It was like Christmas unwrapping it all!

Along with our new kit came our new training hours. Yesterday we had our first full day (which means training 7-1 and 3-5) but because it was a bank holiday we got a one houre lie-in, so techinically our first entire day is still to come!

We don’t do that everyday though, only three days a week. Last week was our last Saturday training at Bisham Abbey as well, which was sad, but now we will be doing another day at Garrison in the pool instead!

As I said earlier, the days seem to be passing quickly, and exams seem to be coming up really quickly! At the moment, most schools are on Easter half term – but we still train everyday! As much as I’d like to come home and go to sleep though, I need to revise because I really want to do well in my exams!

Another thing that’s coming closer is our trip to Pineapple dance studios! I’m really looking forward to the day out in London, and having a lovely meal with the rest of the team.

Last week I had to get back in the pool after doing a day’s training. I needed to film my swimming and synchro for my PE GCSE at school but I think that should be nearly sorted now. I think I still have to do to more practicals, which will probably be dance and personal survival.

It’s Lucy’s (my team and house mate) birthday on Friday, so I’m sure she will be glad to be getting up at 6am! I think she is going up to Sheffield that weekend though with her mum to watch British Champs so that will be really nice for her!

Apart from that I think that’s all there is happening at the moment.

I’ll keep you posted – hopefully a bit sooner next time!
