Danube Cup updates from Slovakia
The Senior Men’s Water Polo Team, powered by British Gas, are competing in the Danube Cup against Slovakia, Romania and Greece. Keep up with their progress here.
MATCH 1 – GREAT BRITAIN 12 - 11 SLOVAKIA (4-2 / 2-3 / 3-3 / 3-3)
We went 4-1 ahead in the first quarter after an excellent controlled start from all points. Slovakia came back at us and brought the score to 6-6 before going further to lead 8-6.
But we changed our tactics and came strongly back to lead 10-8 and then 12-10. Our opponents scored again with a counter attack to make it 12-11 but with an extra man and a time-out in the last 30 seconds, we spread around control of the ball to the end of the match.
This was a great result for the boys where everyone played well against one of the top European teams.
The team is drawing a lot of attention with regards to the progress they are making and it is opening doors for them to play professional water polo abroad.
