Joanna Wray blogs from the pre-season Water Polo training camp with Germany - Day 4
Day 4 saw the British Team, powered by British Gas, playing another practice match against their hosts in the morning before letting their hair down in the evening.
The final quarter was much better from GB - Germany took two sets of man-ups but our defence restricted them to scoring just one from six chances.
Today we had two more sessions, playing a practice match in the morning where we tried players in some different positions and practised tactics.
The match was good with goals from Chloe in the first quarter from a man-up. The Germans remained focused as this is their last week until the European Championships and they scored three past us in the first quarter.
Ciara, Fran and Lisa all scored in the second quarter but the Germans doubled our tally and took six. Our attack was working well with some nice passes and set plays but the finishing today just wasn’t as consistent.
Lisa scored our only goal in the third quarter from a man-up as the Germans extended their lead. To practice each team’s man-up tactics, we went through three chances each so the scores were extenuated with the extra chances.
The Germans scored 2/3 of their next man-up finishing the third quarter 17-9 ahead.
The final quarter was better from GB. The Germans took two sets of man-ups but our defence played well to only allow them to score 1/6 chances. At the other end we had just the one man-up set and scored all three, with great goals from Frankie, Aine and Fran. The match ended 18-12.
The evening session was spent with an hour working alone and then tactical work with six on six and Szilveszter trying some new tactics for the girls to use in the next game.
Following training, we were invited by the major of the town to a rock country western concert put on by the Rock and Pop Museum in Gronau. The girls had fun for a couple of hours before we slept ready for tomorrow's morning session.
