Angie Winstanley-Smith
Angie loves playing water polo and her first Senior international meet was the World Championships in Barcelona in 2003. One of her greatest matches was for Great Britain Juniors in Bari 2004 where the team drew against the Spanish 9-9. Angie was part of the British team’s gold medal winning performance at the 2009 LEN European B Nations Trophy. She continues to strive to be the best and is looking forward to the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Hazel Musgrove
Last year Hazel got a taste of senior international competition for the first time after representing the British team in Hungary and hasn’t looked back since. A keen sportswoman, Hazel believes that if she wasn’t a water polo player she would have been a netballer. She played a key part in the team’s LEN European B Championship title win.
Rosie Morris
Rosie has been playing for the senior British team since 2004 and she was voted ‘Best Goalkeeper’ at the 2007 LEN European Nations Trophy. This performance was demonstrated at the 2009 LEN European B Nations Trophy where she was part of the gold medal winning British team. Rosie’s main aspirations are to play in and win a medal at the 2012 Olympics and also to win Goalkeeper of the Tournament at the European A Championship.
Fran Leighton
Fran’s family have had a strong influence on her athlete career, with her brother, dad and sister all being involved with the GB Water Polo programme. Fran competed in her first Senior international meet in the 1999 European A qualification tournament in Nice. Fran has won a Commonwealth bronze medal and was also part of the gold medal winning British team at the 2009 LEN European B Nations Trophy held in Manchester. Fran is determined to continue this success and be part of the winning 2012 Olympic Team.
Rachel Drabble
Rachel is one of the youngest players on the British team and is a relative new comer to the senior ranks. Rachel’s first Senior international meet was against Hungary in 2007 and one of her greatest sporting achievements to date has been the European Junior Championships 2008, where she captained the team to an impressive seventh place. She was also part of the gold medal winning British team at the 2009 LEN European B Nations Trophy held in Manchester.
Chloe Wilcox
Chloe’s passion for water polo came from her brothers who were all county swimmers and played water polo. Chloe’s first Senior International meet was the Four Nations tournament in 2004 in Lille. During this event she scored her first international goal for GB and was voted player of the tournament by her team mates. Since then, Chloe has continued to play well and was part of the gold medal winning British team at the 2009 LEN European B Nations Trophy. Chloe is dedicated to building on this success and to winning a medal at the Olympics.
Fiona McCann
Fiona was part of the silver medal winning team at the 2007 LEN European Nations Trophy and was also part of the gold medal winning British team at the 2009 LEN European B Nations Trophy held in Manchester. Fiona is keen to build on this success and with her dedication to give 100% to training she may well achieve her ultimate aspiration to win an Olympic medal.
Alex Rutlidge
Alex’s main influence on her water polo career has been her family, her dad played water polo and her granddad was involved in swimming and coaching. Alex’s first senior international meet was when she was 17 years of age. One of her greatest sporting achievements was scoring the winning goal, with 12 seconds left against the Italian U20 Team in Tolentino. The final score was 8-7. Alex was part of the gold medal winning British team at the 2009 LEN European B Nations Trophy.
